Last year I changed the login setup for the online classes from a numbered system for login names to using your first initial and last name.
Under the old system, your websites looked like this:
http://cis2.elgin.edu/cis123xx/...
where "xx" was a number I assigned to you, and "123" was whatever course number of the course you were enrolled in.
Under the new system, you access your website like this:
http://cis2.elgin.edu/loginname/...
where "loginname" is your login name for this course (first initial, last name).
I believe I've updated all or most of the website references in the course from "cis2.elgin.edu/cis123xx" to "cis2.elgin.edu/loginname", but if you discover any old references, please let me know so I can fix them.
One benefit of the new system is that you now have only one login for the course pages and to the web server. With the old system you had different user names (numbers) for each course and separate websites to maintain for each course.
If you are in more than one class, please create a subdirectory inside your "www" folder on the server for each class, using the lowercase course code, as in "cis148" or "cis210".
Then create an "index.htm" page in your "www" folder that links to your own home page for each course (also "index.htm"), which will now be located at "http://cis2.elgin.edu/loginname/cis148" or "http://cis2.elgin.edu/loginname/cis210"...
Here is a quick template for your index page in the "www" folder that you can save, edit, and use if you are in multiple courses. (When you save it to your computer, save it as "Web page, HTML only".)
I will TRY to maintain your websites from semester to semester, so you can simply add to your "online portfolio", but YOU MUST KEEP YOUR OWN BACKUPS OF YOUR WEBSITES! I cannot guarantee that I can restore your site as you had it if there is a system crash, and from semester to semester I sometimes update and replace servers. Be prepared if you ever must upload your entire website again.
You are welcome to reload previous semesters' files onto the cis2 server to continue building your "online portfolio".
