This is a pretty good and readable book about database design. It covers types of database structures, particularly relational databases which are the focus of this course. It's got good sections on the critical design topics, including normalization.

This is a very good and concise book about Structured Query Language. I've been using it for variations of this course for many years, but I am not happy that the retail price has jumped from about $30 to close to $70 for what is still a relatively skinny book. Because of the price, I've searched for better options but I still like this one better than all the alternatives I've seen.
SAVE MONEY! The 5th, 6th, and 7th editions of "A Guide to SQL" are perfectly acceptable and can be purchased used for less than $10. The ISBN numbers for those editions are 0619033827, 061915957X, and 0-619-21674-3, and they were published in 2000, 2003, and 2005 respectively.

This is a nice, little inexpensive book about the SQL dialect as pertains to MySQL. It's packed with useful information. I like this "in 10 Minutes" series from SAMS Publishing for quick references.

This one is pretty good as SQL books go, and I've considered this one because it's half the cost, but I still prefer the Pratt book.

If you haven't had the CIS 105 course (PHP version) or CIS 248, you might want this abbreviated introduction to PHP to get you started. We won't be doing a lot of PHP in depth, but it will be useful to have a knowledge of how the basic programming commands and structures work in this language.

If you do not have a very solid foundation in strict use of HTML/XHTML and CSS, you will need it for this course. You should have taken CIS 148 (Web Page Markup Language) or you should be concurrently enrolled. This is the recommended book for that course.

This is the alternate recommended book for CIS 148, Web Page Markup Language, and it explains the current philosophy and standards behind web design and development fairly well.
